Unfortunately, back pain for everyone at some time is a reality! There are some rare individuals who seem to skip this little life pleasure but they are in the minority.
Back pain can arise for many different reasons from direct injury to poor posture over time (see video below). Most of the time it is a treatable condition that can be reversed …. sometimes not. Often alleviating back pain requires the patient to be fully committed to getting better …. doing the home based exercises as well as seeking adequate treatment.
Chronic pain is classed as pain that remains in the body from 6 weeks to 3 months after the first painful sensation. Once pain is in the chronic phase, there are many changes that occur within the body, both chemical and physical. To adequately treat and recover from this type of back pain it requires a change in lifestyle, a focus on getting better (ie: yoga, Pilates, core strengthening, gym training) and education as to what is causing the back pain. This whole process can take weeks to months of treatment.
Acute pain generally lasts from a few days to a few weeks. It may be caused by a sports injury, work around the house or in the garden, or a sudden jolt such as a car accident. Symptoms may range from muscle ache to shooting or stabbing pain, limited flexibility and/or range of motion, or an inability to stand straight. Most back pain is easier to treat in its early stages, with Osteopathic treatment providing longer lasting results. So when you experience back pain symptoms DON’T leave it to sort itself out ….
